Little Rapids Corporation Founder Inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame
GREEN BAY, WI, October 15th, 2013 – Little Rapids Corporation’s founder, Charles N. Egan, was inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame on October 3, 2013 at a ceremony in Appleton, Wisconsin. The Paper Industry International Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who, through their inventions, initiative, leadership, entrepreneurship and efforts, have built or improved the paper industry. Mr. Egan and five other paper industry notables from the United States, Finland, Germany and Sweden have now joined the 111 previously inducted honorees.
Mr. Egan was recognized for his leadership and as a founding entrepreneur. He founded Little Rapids Corporation in 1947 within the burgeoning post war pulp and paper industry. Mr. Egan leveraged his broad educational and vocational background to ultimately purchase the Little Rapids Pulp Company in Little Rapids, Wisconsin and then the Wolf River Paper and Fiber Company in Shawano, Wisconsin, both precursors to the present day Little Rapids Corporation. From this base, Mr. Egan led the development of very lightweight papers with unique and diverse characteristics that ultimately assured long-term success of Little Rapids Corporation.
Little Rapids Corporation has not only survived as an independent, family held paper company, but continues to thrive with strong niche positions in attractive and growing end-use markets. The Shawano Paper Mill, and its three specialty paper machines, remains at the core of Little Rapids Corporation, supplying paper to internal converting divisions based in the Green Bay area and to a wide variety of converter customers nationally and around the world. Today, Little Rapids Corporation employs more than 450 associates and operates four manufacturing facilities in the greater Green Bay/Shawano, Wisconsin area.
Little Rapids Corporation was founded by Charles Egan in 1947 and remains a family-owned business. The company’s core product lines serve the medical and beauty market segments under the Graham Professional brand, and the specialty paper market under the Shawano Specialty Papers brand. With headquarters and a manufacturing facility in Green Bay, the company, which employs 365, also has a paper manufacturing facility in Shawano, Wisconsin. In addition, the company donates regularly to the Little Rapids Corporation-Egan Family Foundation Inc., a private foundation established by the Egan family in 1986 with the mission to fund charities in communities where Little Rapids Corporation has facilities.
